225: Acute-Emergent Care-Brain Attack Management of Acute Ischemic Stroke

Description

Audio Session and Presentation Slides from National Conference Nurse Practitioners 2018

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and serious long-term disability for Americans. Management goals are aimed at rapid evaluation and recannulation of the occluded artery. This has historically been limited to the intravenous administration of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) but this therapy has its limitations. TPA is often less effective in large vessel occlusions, has a time window from onset of symptoms to drug administration restricted to 4.5 hours, and carries a list of patient exclusions. During this presentation, we will review several case studies of patients suffering from an acute ischemic stroke, obtain their NIH, and prescribe the appropriate treatment course.
