Case Study #1 Infection: Complex Patient Presentation

Purpose of Activity

This learning activity will engage nurse practitioners and other health professionals in a clinically-focused case study to develop skills in identification and management of distributive shock.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Apply an evidence-based approach to screen and diagnose a patient suspected of distributive shock.
  2. Identify the appropriate treatment plan for the complex patient with infection and hypotension.
  3. Evaluate the patient response to treatment and the need for additional diagnostic and vasopressor support when a patient does not respond adequately to standard therapies.
