Purpose of Activity

To provide professional nurses with knowledge about neonatal jaundice and hyperbilirubinemia.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Describe the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and complications of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
  2. Analyze laboratory studies to identify hyperbilirubinemia.
  3. Identify at least three strategies to prevent complications of hyperbilirubinemia.
  4. Identify the critical components of effectively treating hyperbilirubinemia by using phototherapy or exchange transfusions.
