Purpose of Activity

To provide information on a project designed to decrease the number and severity of health care worker injuries through implementation of a culture of safety for safe patient handling.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Describe the barriers to using patient handling equipment and consequences when the equipment is not used or used improperly.
  2. Outline the components of safe patient handling programs and the need to implement a culture of safety for safe patient handling.
  3. Explain the phases of a safe handling project and discuss identified outcomes.
