JIN continuing education (CE) provides the nurse with a review of various aspects of infusion nursing.Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:
- Identify issues related to blood transfusions and common transfusion reaction signs and symptoms.
- Examine the features and influence of evidence-based, standardized central venous catheter (CVC) maintenance care guidelines developed through the Standardizing Central Venous Catheter Care in the Omaha Region Care from Hospital to Home (SCORCH) project.
- Analyze the use of peripherally-inserted central catheters (PICCs) inserted by clinical nurse specialists (CNSs).
- Evaluate the incidence of and risk factors for sepsis following peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) removal and the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis in neonates.
- Distinguish the impact of an intravenous (IV) skills workshop on graduate nurses' (GNs') comfort and skills.
- Examine nurse interruptions and distractions and the effects of interventions to minimize these to reduce medication administration errors.
