Description
Audio Session from Nursing Management Congress 2016Despite our best intentions, there is clear evidence that supports the fact that caregivers are susceptible to making assumptions about the patients with whom they interact. These assumptions are activated subconsciously, occur most in busy clinical settings and are tied to personal characteristics such as race, gender, and age among other factors. Unfortunately, these same assumptions may impact communication, care decisions and actual health outcomes. This highly interactive session will provide an overview of the science and evidence of the impact of personal characteristics on communication and care, and share some key pointers on how to reduce the impact of stereotypes in our daily work.Learning Objectives
