To provide information about the preventive measures for reducing the incidence of herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) through vaccination, and the strategies for treating PHN when it occurs.Learning Objectives
After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:
- Describe the pathogenesis of herpes zoster and the risk factors for postherpetic neuralgia.
- Identify the clinical characteristics of herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia.
- Evaluate the treatment strategies for pain associated with acute herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia and preventative measures to reduce the occurrence of herpes zoster.
